Deadline to issue written statements for ‘Converted Contracts’

The 31st May 2023 deadline to issue written statements for ‘Converted Contracts’ in Wales under the Renting Homes (Wales) Act 2016 has now passed!

‘Converted Contracts’ were already in place when the Renting Homes (Wales) Act 2016 came into effect on 1st December 2022 and are still in place today e.g. Assured Shorthold Tenancies (ASTs).

Failure to comply with this legislation will mean landlords may be unable to issue notices for possession and the tenants/ contract-holders can even claim compensation

If you are a landlord with a ‘Converted Contract’ in place on a property you have let at the moment it’s important you issue the written statement as soon as possible, if you’ve not done so already.

You can obtain a model written statement for free from the Welsh Government which you can then use to decide which terms from the converted contract remain and which need to be replaced.
