Chepstow, situated in the lower Wye Valley, offers a scenic entrance to Wales. Visit the magnificent Chepstow Castle, which towers over the cliff sides of the river Wye, and then learn more of the history of the town and the Wye Valley at Chepstow Museum. Named Striguil in Norman times (from a Latin word meaning a long furrow), by the 14th century it had its current name - from the Old English ceap/chepe meaning market, and stowe meaning place. In Welsh it's called Cas-Gwent, meaning castle of Gwent.
