Busiest Ever Boxing Day on Rightmove
Rightmove, the UK’s largest property platform, has reported its busiest ever Boxing Day for visits, as thousands of home-hunters began planning their next move for 2026.
Record-Breaking Traffic
Boxing Day has long marked the start of the busier home-moving season following the festive lull, and this year was no exception. Visits to Rightmove on Boxing Day 2025 surpassed the previous record set in 2024, highlighting growing confidence among buyers and sellers.
Traffic to the site nearly doubled (+93%) from Christmas Day to Boxing Day. This bounce was even bigger than last year’s increase of 87%, showing strong early momentum for the year ahead.
Surge in Buyer and Seller Activity
The post-Christmas period also saw a sharp rise in home-moving activity:
- Enquiries to estate agents jumped by 67% in the five days after Christmas compared to the five days before.
- New property listings more than doubled (+143%) during the same period, as sellers worked with agents to launch their homes when buyer interest was at its peak.
This surge signals a busy start to 2026, with many sellers keen to take advantage of increased demand.
Steve Pimblett, Rightmove’s Chief Data Officer, commented:
“It’s early days but Boxing Day’s data suggests agents could have a busy start to 2026 after a quieter festive period during December, which was also impacted by the lateness of the Budget and the uncertainty around potential policies in the lead up to it record breaking visit numbers indicates many are looking to put some of the uncertainty of last year behind them and get going with a 2026 move.”
